art with a bit of spice~

My work retells my lived experience, mixed with fantasy, through animalistic characters who represent fractured parts of myself. In my stories, these autobiographical characters experience hardship and reflect my traumatic experiences surrounding psychosis, gender dysphoria, sexual guilt, isolation, and the existential dread of the human condition. The stories are told through animalistic creatures because they hold a mirror to our own biological and fragile animal nature. My work also deals with the Christian religion in a broad sense, because of how it permeates our culture and is connected to my own mental struggles. In the end I pose a hopeful but tumultuous prospect for these characters, leaving the ending up to interpretation. It poses the question if our human/animal souls can make it through the flames of trauma to the beauty, peace and wholeness of self on the other side.
Jetty Lauson is a Minneapolis, MN transplant. Originally from Seattle WA , Jetty has had a great fascination with art from a very young age and continues to try to push her art practice within a variety of mediums. Jetty has worked in- ceramics, sculpture, welding, printmaking, painting, drawing and digital art. She is always looking for the next medium to explore. Jetty’s fascination with animals and this human/ animal connection has been a curiosity and investigation found throughout her entire body of work. She believes that we are not so different from our animal counterparts, and that we should connect these more with our animalistic feelings and qualities -rather than hiding them, in our pursuit of fully understanding ourselves.
